MVA’s Keep Rush VFD Busy During Carnival Week

Shortly after our parade ended on Wednesday Night, July 30th, we were dispatched to a two car MVC on SR 367 near Brozonis Road in Rush Township.  Rush 11 (Joe Conboy) responded from the carnival grounds along with Rush Rescue 1 and Rush Engine 4.  Upon arriving on the scene Rush 11 found 9 patients self extricated.  He requested seven more BLS units respond to the scene as well as Rush 13 (Brock Small) respond to the scene with Rush Tanker 5 to set up landing zones for Guthrie and Life Flight helicopter transports for two the patients.  Before leaving Station 1 Rush 13 requested United Rescue 1 respond from our carnival grounds with manpower to assist at the landing zones.  After the helicopters were back in the air United Rescue 1 was requested to come into the accident scene for lighting assistance.  Units remained on the scene for approximately three and a half hours.

Just as the second night of the carnival was beginning on July 31st we were once again dispatched for a two vehicle MVC at the intersection of SR 706 and SR 858 near Rushville.  Rush Rescue 1 responded along with Rush 12 (R. Shingler) and Rush 13 (Brock Small) to find a two car crash with minor injuries.  Units remained on the scene for approximately an hour and a half controlling traffic while the vehicles were being removed.

On Friday afternoon August 1st, shortly before our carnival was about to begin, we were dispatched for an MVC in Rush Township on SR 267.  Communications soon gave an update that the crash was near the intersection with SR 4015.  Rush Rescue 1 and Rush 12 (R. Shingler) responded and upon arrival found a private contractor’s line painting truck had lost control on SR 4015, ran across SR 267, and then rolled over off of the shoulder.  No injuries were reported however units remained on the scene for approximately four hours controlling traffic while the truck was being removed by a heavy wrecker service.

Thank you to everyone who helped to make our 2008 Annual Carnival a HUGE success.

Busy Week

July 18, 2008  The weekend started early Saturday morning at 03:34 for a reported MVC 1 mile south of Lawton on SR 267.  Heading south on SR 267 nothing was found until about 5 miles south of Lawton with one car into a pole with no patients around.  PSP arrived and did their investigation and units returned at 05:27.  Monday morning the tones dropped for a tanker truck carrying milk overturned west of Lawton on SR 706.  Units arrived to find the tanker on its side, spilling milk in the ditch.  A heavy tow service along with a clean up crew were called to the scene for cleanup.  A a lengthy ordeal, the incident was terminated in a little over 6 hours.    After a day off except for Tuesday night training, we were on the road again Wednesday night for a trailer fire in Retta, Auburn Twp.  Along with us, Station 2 (Meshoppen) and Station 5 (Laceyville) from Wyoming County were responding.  An unoccupied trailer was found on fire and units make quick work and mopped up in a little less than 2 hours.  The final call for the week was for a possible drowning in Rush Twp.  Units arrived to find one patient out of the water with CPR in progress.  The patient was transported to a local hospital then later air lifted to another hospital.  Despite the valiant efforts of everyone involved the patient passed away later that night.  Also in this week we responded to two medical calls and a call for wires down.
